Sisseton-Wahpeton Victims Assistance
Program was established in 2006 to assist victims of Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault. The following services
are available through this progra m:
1. Emergency shelter: In the event
that the victim needs emergency shelther SWVAP will assist in finding them a safe place.
2. Transportation: The advocates will transport
victim and his/her children to the shelter of their choice, or the hospital if needed, will also take them to appointments,
etc.--as long as it is related to their case.
3. Gas: If the victim has their own
vehicle but does not have the funds to leave for a safe place, SWVAP will issue a voucher for gas from our local Super Valu
grocery/convenience store.
4. Food: The SWVAP will assist the victim
with a food voucher from our local Super Valu grocery/convenience store.
5. Basic Supplies: SWVAP will have basic
home and personal supplies on hand to give to the cliental who seek assistance from the program.
6. Advocacy: The advocates of SWVAP will
provide support to the victim by accompanying them to a.) Court to obtain a restraining order b.) The court system to
report any incident that has harmed the individual c.) Law Enforcement to report a crime d.) Court hearings e.) The hospital
for medical care and f.) Accompany them to other social service programs.
